Been awhile since it was introduced, it was used for a little bit quite frequently, but it kinda died down to the extent theres 3-4 regulars max now.
Was having a chat with riley and thought I may aswell shove up a basic guide for people who want to use it but don't like having the Java applet open the entire time. ---- 1) Before you can start using mIRC, you will first need to download and install it. If you have already done that, you can skip to the next step. You can download mIRC by clicking here. A download window should appear, similar to the one below. You should click the Run or Open or Save File button.
Once the download has completed, the mIRC installer will appear. You should follow the steps in the installer and then run mIRC. 2) When you run mIRC you will normally see the window below. This is called the Connect window and allows you to connect to IRC. You will need to enter something for your Full Name and Email Address. These do not have to be your real full name and email address. You will then have to choose your Nickname and Alternative nickname. These are the names by which other people will know you on IRC.
3) Next we're going to need to add the Arathor IRC server, after you have entered all your details in the connect options tab, you will see a "Servers" tab underneath it. Click this and it will take you to a long list of servers, we want to ignore all of these and click the "add" button the right hand side. Once you've done this, fill out the details to the same as the picture below and click "add"
Once you've added it, find it within the server list - It will be under "Arathor" and click the "Select" button to the right. 4) Right, go back to the "Connect" tab, and hit the connect button at the bottom and it will start connecting you to the server. Once it's connected a window will pop up called 'mIRC favorites', in the text box at the top type "#Arathor' so it looks like this.
Then click 'Join' next to the text box. 5) This will now have joined you into the #Arathor chat room that the Java Applet would take you into. Once you're in there it should look something like this.
And there you go, connected to the server without having a Java window open. mIRC will run in the background without making you lag or anything else. If you want any more help, feel free to give me a poke. -------------------- |

mIRC just has way more useful features and better usability than any other IRC client I've seen and used to date. That doesn't include Irssi (although it looks more bare-bone than mIRC to me too), but certainly includes ChatZilla...

If you're at work and you can't install an IRC client, you can always use Mibbit!
1. Go here: http://www.mibbit.com/chat/ ![]() 2. Click the "server" link and fill it out with the details: Server address: irc.vbirc.com Channel: #arathor You can pick your own username. It should look like the screenshot below. ![]() 3. click "go" 4. You're done!
